For the fourth consecutive year, a number of Guardia Civil officers will reinforce the State Security Forces and Corps during the key months of the tourist season. Although the number is not specified, more than 30 agents will be deployed from June 1st until the October 15th - although this date is still flexible depending on club closures - on the island of Ibiza.

These reinforcements are part of the so-called Operation High Impact Zulu Bravo, which is carried out for the fourth consecutive year in the Pitiusas and which was presented on Monday to the Government Delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodriguez, in the facilities of the island park of Sa Coma. There, Rodríguez valued as «excellent news» to be able to maintain a level of reinforcements «even higher than last year».

As in so many other areas, it is particularly difficult for the Guardia Civil to maintain staff loyalty in Ibiza, given the island's specific housing conditions. For this reason, the reinforcement agents, based on an agreement with the Hotel Federation of Ibiza and Formentera, will be accommodated in hotels during their time on the island.

As the government delegate explained, these reinforcements will be assigned to «different strategic communication points, such as the port or the airport, public safety issues, and a special service for the prevention and attention of sexual crimes. There will also be additional support for the maritime and dog services for tracking drugs or explosives, and for searching for missing persons».

The chief colonel of the Guardia Civil in the Balearic Islands, Alejandro Hernández, also spoke about these summer reinforcements. Although he did not want to offer specific figures, he explained that Ibiza is the territory «that receives the greatest number of reinforcements in proportion. The two teams of the Agrupación Rural de Seguridad (Rural Security Group), plus the members of the Maritime Service, the Cynological Service, the Traffic Service and other specialities such as the GEAS (Special Group for Underwater Activities) make up the smallest number of Civil Guards providing support outside the area where they are stationed». With this support, according to Hernández himself, the aim is to «continue to achieve what we have been achieving in recent years», referring to the presence in the areas with the highest tourist influxes, the areas with the highest incidence rates, «to guarantee the safety of citizens».

Regarding the accommodation for these reinforcement agents, who will be staying in hotels, the Guardia Civil colonel pointed out the «good will» of the Hotel Federation in offering rooms at lower prices than those available to tourists, which «allows us to bring in so many people».
