Rain and cold for the long weekend break in December in Ibiza and Formentera

In Ibiza and Formentera the minimum temperatures will collapse this Thursday with minimum 9ºC and maximum 18ºC, although with the passing of the days those drops will moderate. Already for Thursday and Friday are expected weak and occasional preferably at night accompanied by weak southwest wind, towards noon, to moderate with some strong interval.
The spokesman of the AEMET, Rubén del Campo, has pointed out that the thermal decrease of this first weekend of December has been accused and frosts have been recorded in several areas of the peninsular interior, as in the summits of the Pyrenees and Sierra Nevada, where the thermometers have marked to 12 ºC below zero, according to Europa Press.

In this sense, during the early hours of Monday there has been an increase in night temperatures, although the spokesman has highlighted the 7 ºC below zero in the high areas of the Peninsula. In addition, the values of the populated areas during the weekend ranged between -6ºC and -8ºC, as in localities of Pyrenean valleys.

Also, although the frosts this Monday have been weaker and have not affected «too many» localities, del Campo warns that this Tuesday and Wednesday frost will be recorded again in much of the peninsular interior as well as in the northern and central half.

In a more detailed way, this Monday a front will take to the Peninsula rains, usually weak and dispersed, although with accumulations somewhat greater in the Cantabrian, area where also the wind will blow with force and there will be maritime temporary.

In the Pyrenees and the Cantabrian Mountains it will snow around 900 and 1,200 meters, and once the front moves, it will leave clear skies with colder air that will cause the drop in temperatures, although the spokesman has specified that the minimum will be recorded at the end of Monday.

The spokesman predicts that Tuesday will be a «quiet» day, with clear skies except the northern end of the Peninsula, which will have even more cloudy skies and weak rains. It also does not rule out some showers in the north of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands in the first half of the day.

On the other hand, during the afternoon-night an area of low Atlantic pressures will cover the skies in the west of Andalusia, so rain is expected that could extend to the south of Extremadura. This Tuesday the height of snow in the northern half will also be between 800 and 1,000 meters although in the central area will be close to 1,200.

In short, Del Campo points out that this Tuesday will be a «cold» day with temperatures «clearly» lower than the day before since this descent will be accompanied by frosts in large part of the northern plateau and plains of the central peninsula.

Thus, cities like Burgos, Palencia or Teruel will fall to -3ºC and in the early afternoon will not reach 10ºC in much of the peninsular interior, although the Mediterranean coast of the southern half of the peninsula could reach 15ºC.

This Wednesday will also dawn with frost in much of the north and central peninsular as well as in the Pyrenees, where they will be more intense. However, temperatures will rise throughout the day to peaks around 18ºC and 20ºC on the Mediterranean coast and the Guadalquivir Valley.

Meanwhile, the interior will have a cooler atmosphere with oscillations between 10ºC and 15ºC. With regard to rainfall, the spokesman explained that there is still uncertainty, so it does not rule out rainfall in parts of Andalusia, mainly in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar.

In any case, a front will leave rains in Galicia, Asturias and the northwest of Castile and León from noon on Wednesday, rainfall that will be abundant in the west of the Galician community.

This front will advance from west to east during Thursday, so it will be a day with widespread rainfall in the north, center and west of the Peninsula, with the exception of Andalusia or Region of Murcia where it could rain although «very weak».

Thus, the most abundant rainfall will occur again in Galicia, mainly in the west of the community as well as in the environment of the western central system, which includes the north of the province of Cáceres and southern Ávila and Salamanca. It will also rain in the north of the Iberian system, along with a peak of 1,200 meters of snow and will increase to over 2,000 meters along Thursday.

On the other hand, westerly and southwesterly winds will increase temperatures, so frosts will cease throughout Spain and the maximum will exceed 10ºC practically throughout the country and even in the Bay of Biscay will be around 20ºC by winds from the south and up to 22ºC that could be reached on the shores of the Mediterranean.

Looking ahead to the weekend, although there is still uncertainty in the prediction, the spokesman forecasts that from Friday several fronts will arrive that leave rain in large areas of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands except in the southeast. On Saturday and Sunday the rainfall will be limited to Galicia, the Cantabrian and the Pyrenees and in lesser quantity in points of the peninsular west.

In the rest of Spain will appear cloudy intervals, although the probability of rainfall is low, while it will snow in the Pyrenees mainly on Friday, with temperatures that will tend to fall throughout the day and on Saturday without the appearance of night frosts.

Thus, on Sunday the maximum will range between 10ºC and 15ºC in many areas of the peninsular interior, 15ºC in areas close to the coasts and near or above 20ºC in the southern third of the Mediterranean coast and points of the Cantabrian.

Finally, in the Canary Islands the skies will predominate during the week, although on Wednesday and Thursday will appear cloudy intervals in the most mountainous islands, that according to the spokesman would cause some weak rains. Thermometers shall record at least between 18ºC and 20ºC, while in coastal areas they would range from 24ºC to 26ºC.
